Silent night! Holy night!
All is calm, all is bright!
Round yon Virgin Mother and Child!
Sleep in heavenly peace!
Sleep in heavenly peace!

Silent night! Holy night!
Shepherds quake at the sight!
Glories stream from heaven afar,
Heav'nly host sing, "alleluia!"
Christ, the Savior is born!
Christ,the Savior is born!

Silent night! Holy night!
Son of God, love's purelight!
Radiant beams from Thy holy face!
With the dawn redeeming grace.
Jesus, Lord at Thy birth!
Jesus, Lord at Thy birth!

"Where does Christmas originate ??"

At the time that  the rhythm of peoples lives was set by the rhythm of the earth, and  its seasons, men already celebrated the solstice. Exhausted by cold, darkness and the drap lifeless nature, they celebrated the shortest day of the year and the approaching return of nice weather. Soon the sun would return and like a real blessing rekindle  life in mother earth and  restart growth in plants and flowers.  Those December-festivities took place from November till January and  were manifest in a wide array of diversified celebrations. And that has not changed up to this day. As a symbol of life, a green three and  fire were and integral part of the festivities.
The Romans already decorated their houses with holly and the Norsemen made enormous campfires, as symbols of peace.

It was only in the third century, that the Christian West, began to celebrate Epiphany on the sixth of January, in the middle of those pagan feasts. And So, they  commemorated at the same time the birth of Christ, his baptism and his first miracle in Canaan.  The word "Christmas" itself originates from the latin word " natalis" meaning "birth".  In the fourth century, more precisely in the year 354, pope Julius the First, decreed that Jesus ` birthday was on December 25.
Christmas became one of the most important feasts of the Western World in  a liturgical as well as a profane sense. And the traditions around Christmas , most probably, came simply  from the century-old fascination of men with the mystery of life.  Life that renews itself constantly.
